FORMER PRIME MINISTER ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE DIES, WIDESPREAD WOE IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY
New Delhi: Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away today. Atal, 93, breathed his last at AIIMS on Thursday. He was ill for a long time and his health was not getting any improvement. Atal had been on wheelchair since 2009. For the last two days, round-the-clock medicines and dualities were going on for the better health of the whole country. But both could not beat the time. Since the news of the death of Vajpayee, who is said to be 'Atal' of politics, the wave of grief has spread throughout the country.
SANYAS TOOK AWAY FROM POLITICS
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was completely away from politics for the past 13 years and publicly did not appear in camera in the meantime. Though his personality was such that whenever it comes to BJP's achievement, then Vajpayee would have remembered. He used to be a strong contender of Hindu vocal, but you may be surprised to know that he had ever walked with the left.
BORN IN GWALIOR, MADHYA PRADESH
Indeed, on 25 December 1924, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born in Gwalior city of Madhya Pradesh. Atal's father's name is Krishna Bihari Vajpayee and mother Krishna Devi. In politics, Vajpayee started as a freedom fighter during the Quit India movement of 1942-45. Before catching up with the Hindu Nationalist Organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Jan Sangh, Vajpayee also came in contact with communism for some time.
BEGINNING WITH THE LEFT
Vajpayee started as a communist, but left communism to subscribe to the RSS, which had raised the flag of Hindutva. Atal, in the beginning of the 1950s, left the study of law to run the RSS magazine. Later he gathered his political roots in the RSS and emerged as a moderate voice of BJP. Since 1951, became part of Indian politics. He contested the Lok Sabha election for the first time in 1955 but lost. After this he became a Member of Parliament in 1957. He was elected the first Member of Parliament in 1957.
IMPORTANT ROLE PLAYED IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BJP
Atal Bihari Vajpayee played a key role in the establishment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 90's. It was amazing for Vajpayee's personality that the new allies were joined with BJP at the time, while those days due to demolition of Babri Masjid and right wing, BJP was considered as politically untouchable.
LOK SABHA MP 10 TIMES
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a Lok Sabha MP 10 times. During this period, he was twice as a Rajya Sabha MP in 1962 and 1986. Atal contested the Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi and Madhya Pradesh and won. At the same time he had reached the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat.
PM HAD FALLEN TWICE IN THE TENURE OF GOVERNMENT
After being in the opposition for four decades of BJP, Vajpayee became the prime minister for the first time in 1996, but due to the hung Lok Sabha, the government fell only in 13 days. The figures once again played a game of hide and seek with Vajpayee and due to not having a stable majority, 13 months later, in the beginning of 1999, another government led by him also fell. But in the 1999 elections, Vajpayee became head of a more stable coalition government than the last time, who completed his five-year tenure.
UNHAPPY WITH THE POLITICS OF COALITION
Because of coalition politics, the government of Vajpayee fell twice. During this, he had taken an emotional speech in Parliament and took a dig at the opposition's laughter. Due to coalition compulsions, BJP had to keep its core issues behind. Due to these compulsions, its pertinent issues like Article 370, related to Jammu and Kashmir, Ram temple in Ayodhya, and implementation of the same civil code have gone into the freezer.
WORLD SHOCKED BY NUCLEAR TEST DECISION
At 11 April 13, 1998, Atal Bihari Vajpayee surprised everyone by blasting five underground nuclear tests in Pokhran. This was India's second nuclear test. Earlier, Pokhran 1 was tested in 1974. Despite the protests of many prosperous countries of the world, the Atal government carried out this trial, after which several countries including the US, Canada, Japan and the European Union had imposed a lot of restrictions on India, despite the Atal government's country's GDP Growth in Pokhran's test is one of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's biggest decisions.
