When you log in to Gmail, you'll see a more 'Gmail' text on the bottom left of Gmail. As soon as you click on it, all the contacts of the phone will come on the computer display.
Your Gmail account must be active on the mobile to make the numbers saved in the mobile on Gmail backup.
For that you have to go to the settings of the phone first. Then select 'Ad Account' instead of 'Account & Sync'.
You can copy and paste that contact into the compose box without typing in Gma
